Hairspray

Work in progress. Multiple rolling units and the false proscenium during construction for the BHS production of Hairspray.

For this production, I rented a set of wonderful backdrops and then created the necessary rolling/flying pieces to round out the design.

The Dining Room

A play with vignette stories, a 'portrait of American life', I chose to set the stage within a picture frame.

Into the Woods

Creating a dark, fairy tale atmosphere for this Sondheim classic. This was a small budget, 'second musical' production.

I created rolling, 'Pop-Up' books to frame the three main, individual stories.

Les Miserables

One of the largest productions I designed, Les Miserables centered on a 22 foot working turntable.

The first photo shows me building the barricade. It was built completely from discarded pieces I scavenged from homes during a once a year garbage-discard.

The second is a dress rehearsal photo.

I've included a video clip I put together for the cast that gives a little bit of an idea of the production and set in motion. (Audio is the cast, sound is not good as it came from my camcorder.)

Spring Awakening

The main challenges with this design were budget and limited time in the rented performance space. Total set build/paint time was only about 20 hours.
